Hook Selection Guide

The Original Cam-Action Hook

How They Work?

WWII Veteran, John W. Campbell invented the original cam-action hook in 1959.
His cam rotates the point towards pressure (flesh) and hooks more fish.
Tests by Angling Research Associates were so outstanding; the results were printed in Bassmaster magazine!

About Tru-Turn BloodRed® hooks.
Over 23 years of Research Prove:

  • Fish are naturally attracted to Blood/Injury.
  • The dark red color simulates the Gill-Flash feeding signal
  • Red changes color in deeper/darker waters, but fish still respond to the feeding signal.
  • Fish actually strike the hook!

It’s hard to miss fish when they strike the Tru-Turn BloodRed® Hook!

Basic Hook “Rules”

  • Choosing a smaller size hook will help with penetration and live bait will be “livelier.”
  • If you miss several fish; change hook size.
  • Hook sizing is confusing. From size “1” the bigger the number, the smaller the hook.
  • Hooks above size “1” get bigger as the numbers get bigger. (2/0 would be larger than 1/0)
  • Always choose the smallest diameter wire you can get by with. Diameter is the single most important factor in hook penetration.
  • Short shank hooks are okay; but longer shanks are easier to bait and live release is quicker.

Panfish

Fishing for Bluegill; Brim or Sunfish with live worms, is big fun for kids of all ages. Choose the #303G, 307G, 863G, 388G Snelled hooks or the 853, 856, or 888 Loose hooks.
Try the 860 or 868 fine wire hooks when using crickets.

Crappie; Sac-a-lait, Specks, Speckled Perch, Crappy, whatever you call them, Crappie are voracious feeders. (Some say they taste better than Walleye too.)

Choose the Tru-Turn #853 or #888 Aberdeen in the size 2 for most Crappie. If they are running big, go to the size 1.

Soft Plastics for Bass

The basic “Texas Rig” for worm fishing.
1. Insert the hook, just past the barb.

2. Push the hook point out, through the seam of the worm. (The seam is the tiny line the runs down the worm.)

3. Re-insert the hook point into the worm.
Tip: Keep the worm straight; make sure the hook offset is to the side of the seam in the worm.

Choose the #047, 063 or 077 Tru-Turn Worm Hooks. Tip: Use the #007 Brute® heavier wire hook for heavy line or heavy cover use.
